Developing a speaker to compete with other
mini-monitors at a reasonable price point is no easy
task. It takes blending science and technology with
an eye for artistic innovation, so that the end goal can
be achieved. With this speaker, we set out to create a
speaker that is very intimate sounding, images well, doesn't
take up a lot of room, and remains affordable. We did not
want to skimp on the cabinet construction, crossover,
veneer, and finish. Pictured to the right, we think the
results speak for themselves.
The entire speaker is made of 1" thick MDF material and
the cabinet edges are all mitered, so there is no way that
any seams will show years down the road. The speaker
box also required vertical bracing to get the rigidity that we
desired, and have a box with very low coloration. The
braces are all dadoed for the best solid joints.
The drivers are flush mounted level to the front baffle to
eliminate edge diffraction, the driver openings have
chamfered flares at the backside of the opening to eliminate
early reflections inside the box, which is a detail often left
out in the competition. The speakers are fully veneered, as
we feel it just looks better than a flat black front baffle.
This adds to the cost, but also to the beauty of the speaker.
But that's not all, these speakers also feature high quality
wire, drivers, crossovers, binding posts, and dampening
materials. We use Clarity Caps, air core inductors,
Mundorf resistors and Supra wire for a pure signal path.
